An angry member of the Catholic Church EDDIE IROH who felt insulted by Pastor Chris Okotie's sermon of Sunday December 1, 2013 to his congregation which went viral on the internet has lambasted him for making such unwarranted assertion and described him as a "failed pop-star-turned-preacherman". Click to read what he posted on his facebook wall....
"As a rule I don't play partisan politics, ethnic
or religious card. There are too many other pressing issues in the world which
require dispassionate discourse. But when a
theological nincompoop tries to trammel the Catholic Church in which I was
born, "bred" and "buttered," it would be grossly
irresponsible of me not to defend my faith with all the conviction at my
command. And so today I learned that Mr Chris Okotie, the failed
popstar-turned-preacherman, has said that "all Catholics will go to
hell," because we worship idols and eat the flesh of Christ; and that the
"Pope is the anti-Christ". On hearing this I had to raise my head and
ask "who is speaking?" Mr Okotie is said to be the Founder and
General OVERSEER of an outfit called The Household of GIRLS [sorry god - and
note the small 'g']. Of course Nigeria guarantees religious freedom, and so
every Tom, Dick and Chris has taken the opportunity to found a church. Some
have done so with the same nonchalance with which they formed a pop group. But
we need to accept that understanding the bible requires more than a six month
crash-course, and those who do not know should not try to teach because
theology is not pop music. More importantly, in a democracy, Mr Okotie's right
to free speech does not include the right to traduce other people's faith.
Enough said."
What is your take on this subject? Is Pastor Chris right to judge the Catholics? To me I believe he lacks the moral right to say what he said. Let me see your reaction.
