Typhoon Fitow Hits China


Typhoon Fitow has hit China's east coast, killing at least five people and leaving millions of residents stranded.
 
Local authorities have issued the highest alert, while Zhejiang and Fujian provinces have been evacuated of hundreds of thousands of people. 

Many houses along the Zhejiang coast have collapsed from the storm. According to the official Xinhua news agency, boats and vessels were also called back and fishermen were urged to return onshore.

The typhoon is already estimated to have caused an economic loss of 2.28bn yuan ($372m). It had previously passed through Japan, causing power shortages and cancellations of some flights.  Click on read more to see more pix of the typhoon....
