World's biggest yacht, 590ft 'Azzam' takes to the seas for first time

The yacht, called 'Azzam', was built by a German firm and has beaten Roman Abramovich's 533ft 'Eclipse' off the top spot.

According to Yahoo! News/SWNS - The Azzam is not only the biggest yacht in the world, but also one of the fastest of its kind. (SWNS).

The newly-crowned world's largest yacht took the seas yesterday - a £400million behemoth which is a staggering 590ft long.

The yacht, called 'Azzam', was built by a German firm and has beaten Roman Abramovich's 533ft 'Eclipse' off the top spot.

Azzam was officially unveiled in April, but was seen by 'yachtspotters' being tested on the North Sea at the weekend.

The megayacht is believed to have been ordered by a Middle-Eastern billionaire.

It can travel in excess of 30 knots with power coming from a combination of two gas turbines and two diesel engines with a total of 94,000 horsepower.

Peter Seyfferth, from TheYachtPhoto.com, said: 'During the three days of trials, Azzam reached an amazing top speed of 31.5 knots, making her not only the longest but also by far the fastest megayacht  in the world.

'Such a speed is absolutely exceptional for a yacht of this size.

'Her elegant, sleek lines are another feature which distinguish Azzam from all the other yachts above 150 metres.'

Azzam, which took three years to make, boasts 94,000 horsepower, thanks to a combination of two gas turbines and two diesel engines.

At its widest point Azzam measures 68.2ft while the hull is 15.8ft (SWNS)

Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi was the engineer behind the megayacht, assembling a team to work on the ultra-sophisticated project.

He was told by the yacht’s secret buyer to built a vessel which was innovative and had a timeless design which would be able to travel at high speed and in shallow waters.

The exterior design, which has been described as 'surprisingly slender' was carried out by Nauta Yachts with interior designer Christophe Leoni working on Azzam’s inside.

 Azzam is expected to be delivered to its owner later this year.

Well this grumbling warning may finally have some substance - with the disturbing emergence of the 'baby wig'. That's right, the toupée - usually reserved for people losing their hair - is now an option for nippers yet to sprout their first strands. 

The wigs are sold by a firm called ‘Baby Bangs!’ and start at $29.95. Unsurprisingly, this has provoked a vitriolic response on Twitter, with people like ‏@obsolesence  writing simply: ‘I despair.’ 

Unsurprisingly these critiques do not appear to have made it onto the ‘what people are saying’ page of the company’s website.

Two dogs eat 1/3 of their owner's dead body

Two dogs have been destroyed by police in Sweden after the remains of their owner were discovered at his home.

Officers discovered a third of the man’s corpse which had been devoured by his two Caucasian Shepherd Dogs.

The man, identified by his dental records, was reported missing by a friend who warned police about the dogs, which are traditionally used to hunt bears.

Weighing 90kg each and able to grow to 70cm in height, the dogs had to be shot before police could enter the house.

It is believed the 43 year-old man died two weeks ago. It is not yet known if the dogs are responsible for his death.

Disgust as Nurses are Hired in China to Breastfeed Adults

How old is too old to breastfeed? Six months? A year? Four years? Well how about breastfeeding as an adult? If that idea seems implausible you clearly haven’t been keeping tabs on the wacky indulgences of China’s wealthy classes.

Firms are offering ‘wet-nurse services’ which hire out women for adults to breastfeed from, AFP reports. The milk is popular because of its supposed high nutritional value. The nurses are paid £1,300 per month – and even more if they are ‘healthy and good-looking’. 

However, while those getting the milk may be happy, the craze has attracted disgust on Chinese social media, with one poll showing 90% of people were against it. Writer and commentator Cao Baoyin said it added to China’s ‘problem of treating women as consumer goods.’

Drinking 4 cups of tea or coffee a day helps lower BP - According to New Research

 

 

People consuming four cups of tea or coffee a day have lower blood pressure as compared to those who don’t, a new study has revealed. However, this recent study contradicts previous findings that has linked caffeine intake to high BP or hypertension.

The French research, conducted over a decade, discovered that heavy tea drinkers had lower BP, pulse pressure and heart rate than lighter drinkers.

Scientists also proved in the study that heavy coffee drinkers had slightly higher BP than normal but non-drinkers had the highest readings.

Bruno Pannier, the report author from the Preventive and Clinical Investigations Centre in Paris, said that it was possible that the flavonoids in tea had a relaxing effect on blood vessels.
