London's newest menace
has struck again. The Walkie-Talkie, an unfinished skyscraper in the business
district of the city, made the headlines yesterday after glare from the
building reportedly melted sections of a Jaguar car. Now the malevolent beam of
light has claimed more victims. This time it was the carpet of a barber's shop
that suffered a blast from the 'heat ray'. "Even the wood [of the door] is
burning and our entire product is melting," complained the owner Ali Akay.
"It's not safe." Slates on the doorstep of a nearby cafe have also
been "attacked". Local shops are wondering who will be zapped next.
Perhaps some kind of giant sun-blocker is in order?
