Pictures of the World tallest Hotel in Dubai

Fancy a room with a view? The world's tallest hotel opened this week. That's right: it was in Dubai. The first paying guests arrived at the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai on Wednesday

That takes it beyond the Rose Rayhaan by Rotana (pictured) in the same city.

The hotel consists of two towers standing 72 storeys high.

The total height is a whopping 1,164 feet (355 m), and with several hundred suites and rooms, this may have the most rooms with a view anywhere.

It is not as tall, however, as the Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong, which is on the top floors of the 1,601-ft (488m) International Commerce Center. But it is the tallest building dedicated only to a hotel.

Nor is it anywhere near the size of the Burj Khalifa, the world's highest manmade structure at 2,723 feet.

Only one of the towers has opened; the other is due be open to the public in 2014.

It's the first of the Marquis brand of JW Marriotts to be opened outside North America. According to the publicity material, this status is "reserved only for the most iconic properties within the Marriott International portfolio."
The hotel has a total of nine restaurants, including Prime 68, pictured here.

In each of the towers, there is a particularly plush Presidential Suite
“We are excited and delighted to be officially recognised as the world’s tallest hotel. Dubai is a city of superlatives and the JW Marriott Marquis is an outstanding addition to its iconic skyline.

This Guinness World Record will help us to put Dubai on the global business destination map,” commented the General Manager Rupprecht Queitsch.
An executive suite is currently available for £6282 a night.

There are also five bars, including the Vault, which has night-time views over the city.

This is one of the hotel's five lounges.

The swimming pool also makes use of the hotel's vantage point over the city.

Rooms rates start at $319 (£210).
